EV Tax Credit In Ohio
Ohio residents purchasing a new qualifying electric vehicle in 2025 may be eligible for the federal Clean Vehicle Credit of up to $7,500. Eligibility is based on the buyer's modified adjusted gross income, the vehicle's MSRP, and whether the vehicle meets North American final assembly requirements.
Ohio does not have a state income tax credit specifically for EV purchases as of 2025. Some Ohio utility companies, including AEP Ohio and FirstEnergy subsidiaries, offer rebates for EV purchases or home charging equipment, but these are utility programs rather than state tax credits.
Ohio buyers should file IRS Form 8936 to claim the federal credit and keep the dealer-issued seller report as supporting documentation. The point-of-sale transfer option allows eligible Ohio buyers to apply the credit as an upfront price reduction at participating dealerships rather than waiting for a tax refund.
