529 Plan Deductions in Georgia

A 529 plan provides tax-free investment growth and tax-free withdrawals for qualified education expenses including college costs and up to $10,000 per year in K-12 tuition. Georgia's Path2College 529 Plan is the state-sponsored option, administered by TIAA-CREF.

Georgia allows a state income tax deduction for contributions made to the Path2College 529 Plan. In 2025, single filers may deduct up to $4,000 per beneficiary per year, and joint filers may deduct up to $8,000 per beneficiary. Contributions to out-of-state 529 plans are not eligible for the Georgia deduction.

Georgia taxpayers with multiple children can claim the deduction for each beneficiary, making the benefit particularly valuable for larger families. Unused contribution room does not carry forward, so maximizing annual contributions to the Path2College plan each year is the most efficient way to capture the full state tax benefit.
